Jimmy Freight continued his dominance of the Preferred Class at Woodbine Mohawk Park, scoring for the fourth time this year with a decisive triumph in the $36,000 featured harness racing Preferred Pace Saturday evening.
The second race feature started off with Uhtred and driver Jody Jamieson scooting out to the early lead with Jimmy Freight and driver Louis-Philippe Roy also leaving and securing the two-hole spot as they sped to the opening quarter mile in :28.3.
They raced single file with no movement past the half mile in :57.2. Then entering the final turn, Doug McNair started up first-over with race favorite Wheels On Fire and that flushed out Jimmy Freight from the two-hole as the teletimer flashed 1:25.3 at the three-quarters.
As they started down the stretch, Uhtred tried as he might, but he could not hold off Jimmy Freight, who took the lead in mid-stretch to win by one length in 1:53.2 over Uhtred with Wheels On Fire third.
JIMMY FREIGHT REPLAY
It was the second straight Preferred Pace score and third in his last four starts for Jimmy Freight. The seven-year-old stallion by Sportswriter now sports four wins in 2022 for trainer Richard Moreau and owned Adriano Sorella of Guelph, ON. He paid $8.20 to win.
