For the second time in the last three weeks, Jimmy Freight has upset the harness racing field in winning the $36,000 Preferred-Handicap Pace Saturday at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The ninth race feature started off with the race favorite, Wheels On Fire and driver Doug McNair grinding it out to the early lead over Untred (Jody Jamieson) in :28 seconds to the first quarter.
Stuck on the outside parked out first-over was The Greek Freak (Trevor Henry) and they pressed Wheels On Fire to a half mile clocking in :55.4 with Poseidon Seelster (James MacDonald) second-over.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Freight and driver Louis-Philippe Roy were sitting in seventh place, trapped in along the rail.
Past the three-quarters in 1:24.2, Wheels On Fire was still in command, The Greek Freak was tiring, Poseidon Seelster moved on the outside to mount a challenge.
As they came down the stretch, Roy finally saw some daylight with Jimmy Freight and had to swing him three, then four-wide to the center of the track and past by four horses to get up at the wire by a head in 1:51.3.
Poseidon Seelster closed well to be second with Wheels On Fire place third after Beyond Bettor (Bob McClure) broke stride at the wire and was placed from third to fourth.
