Former champion pacer Jimmy Freight flashed some of his great speed in capturing the $36,000 Preferred Pace at odds of 11-1 Saturday at Mohawk Park for harness racing driver Louis-Philippe Roy. Early favorite Wheels On Fire was a late scratch.
The 10th race feature saw Uhtred and driver Jody Jamieson first on the lead to the first quarter in :28.3 as Poseidon Seelster and driver Bob McClure took over command and led the field past the half mile in :57.3. Meanwhile Jimmy Freight and LPR were sitting third along the rail.
Then before the three-quarters, The Greek Freak (Chris Christoforou) came first-over to challenge with race favorite Commanding Officer (Sylvain Filion) following second-over as they sped past the three-quarters in 1:26.
Coming down the stretch, The Greek Freak faded, and Jamieson took Uhtred to the outside to challenge Poseidon Seelster, who bore out just enough from the rail that Jimmy Freight and LPR were able to shoot right through with a :26.3 last quarter mile and win by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.2.
Uhtred came on for second place with Poseidon Seelster third.
