Jimmy Freight (Sportswriter-Allamerican Summer) spent the start of his 2023 harness racing season stateside and returned to his first start on Canadian soil at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday (Sept. 22) morning for a qualifying session with Louis-Philippe Roy in the bike for Richard Moreau.
The eight-year-old has earned two wins, three seconds, and a third in six starts with $78,860 banked under the guidance of Brett Pelling this season. Friday morning was his first start back since mid-April.
In the card finale, Jimmy Freight and Roy took position in the far outside in the field of seven. As the wings drew away, One Last Wish (Paul MacDonell) was the first to the top, followed by Mist Amber (Sylvain Filion) and Jimmy Freight. The field remained single file through the opening panel in :27.4 and half in :56.4 before Jimmy Freight tipped first over en route to the three-quarters in 1:26.4. Jimmy Freight matched One Last Wish in the last turn and then kept on going to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:53.3. Seriously Hanover (Tyler Jones) took the third spot.
