Jumpshot surprised Georgian Downs bettors on Sunday as the five-year-old snapped a 17-race losing run in a lifetime-best time when he won the track’s Preferred 2 harness racing contest at 23-1.
He vied for the front in the middle of a leaving trio, but reinsman Nick Steward pulled him into the pocket spot as the field of eight entered the first turn. Jumpshot set behind Sicario (Austin Sorrie) through quarter times of :28, :57.4, and 1:25.1 and pounced on the leader as they swung into the stretch.
Sicario, weakened from resisting an earlier first-over challenge, gave way in the final strides, and Jumpshot reached up off the perfect trip to score in 1:54.3. Sicario held second. Profound Paragon (Jean Bernard Renaud) soared in the final eighth to snag the show placing.
Jumpshot improved his record to seven-for-65 lifetime with the victory and bolstered his earnings to $197,163. Benoit Baillargeon trains the five-year-old E L Titan gelding for Michel Gaboury of Venise-En-Quebec. The horse’s most recent victory was on Oct. 22, 2020 at Rideau Carleton.
Georgian Downs sees action next on Tuesday, Jun. 29. The card will begin at 7:15 p.m. EDT and contains another Preferred 2 dash.
