Lefkada broke the aged trotting mare record on Saturday at Hiawatha Horse Park as she handily defeated conditioned rivals.
She secured the three-hole from post one but forfeited it after completing the first quarter mile in :27.3 by pulling first-over. She advanced along the outside for driver Scott Wray and took command after passing the half-mile marker in :57.2. Wray kept the gas pedal down, and Lefkada soared to a five-length gap at three-quarters in 1:25.1.
West River Cindy (Tyler Borth) began to reel the leader as they entered the final panel, and she pulled alongside Lefkada on the final turn. Lefkada, facing defeat, resurged at headstretch and opened up again to win by four and a quarter lengths in 1:56. West River Cindy finished second. Cheatalotpov (Donnie Rankin) was well behind in third.
