Lestenpercent braved the breeze for three quarters of a mile to take the Preferred Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday.
He dropped to the fifth spot for Rodney La Framboise in a :28 first quarter and started his first-over grind going to the half in :58.2, which Seeyou Men (Guy Gagnon) set after clearing to the front. Lestenpercent made steady headway through the third panel and applied major pressure to Seeyou Men as they passed three-quarters on even terms in 1:27.1.
Lesstenpercent struck the front as the field of nine turned for home and vanquished Seeyou Men with a final push in mid-stretch to score in 1:56.2. Magic Night (Richard Simard) finished second after a late spurt; Seeyou Men held third.
LESTENPERCENT REPLAY
Paul Laframboise, a resident of LāAnge-Gardien, trains and owns Lestenpercent, a six-year-old gelded son of Justice Hall. The horse is a 23-time winner from 82 career outings, and he has now earned $115,905. He paid $9.10 to win on Sunday.
National Debt collected a victory in the Preferred event for pacers earlier in the card.
The stallion trailed his four rivals early after taking back from post five, but driver Pascal Berube put him on the move before the first quarter was completed in :27.1. National Debt stormed to the front as they passed the stands and immediately faced a challenge from The Regulator (Ryan Guy) as they hit the half in :56.2.
National Debt was steadfast on the lead and outlasted The Regulator, who began to stall at three-quarters in 1:24.3. The leader edged away to a two-length cushion and was wrapped up at the finish, winning in 1:53.3. Racemup (Gagnon) made a late bid and claimed the place cheque. The Regulator finished third.
NATIONAL DEBT REPLAY
National Debt earned his 69th career victory in 205 outings with the win, and he improved his earnings to $627,039. Yves Tessier conditions the 10-year-old son of Allamerican Native for Francois Morin of Beauceville. The horse was a $4.40 winner.
Simard combined with trainer Anne Marie Turenne for three victories on the day. They won the fifth with Genesee (1:57.1), seventh with Fit Bitt (1:57), and eighth with Western Phil (1:55.2). Simard is second in the driversā standings with 20 wins at Rideau Carleton in 2021; Gagnon is on top with 33. Turenne moves into second among trainers with 17 tallies. Gagnon, now with 22, also leads that group.
