Lindy The Great circled Forbidden Trade and Atlanta in the stretch to capture the $546,000 Maple Leaf Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, avenging his loss in last year’s edition of the harness racing stake.
Driver James MacDonald had theĀ Crazed stallion storming out of post six, but he ended up with the three-hole after Beads (Dave Miller) accelerated at the pylons and Forbidden Trade (Bob McClure) circled both on the first turn. Forbidden Trade set :27, :55.2, and 1:23.2 fractional times on the lead and led by three entering the stretch.
Atlanta (Yannick Gingras), who advanced first over and followed the leader into the lane, came up empty. Lindy The Great activated the afterburners at the eighth pole, though, and he destroyed Forbidden Trade’s advantage with a deep-stretch burst to roar by that rival to a 1:51.3 victory.
Forbidden Trade finished second, several lengths ahead of Perfetto (Dagfin Henriksen), who took show.
