Patriarch Hanover (Father Patrick) stopped Logan Park’s unbeaten harness racing season at three by hauling him down in the stretch to take the $48,000 Free For All at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (May 15).
Patriarch Hanover put in a big first-quarter shift, rolling to the front on the outside from post seven in a :27.1 split. His driver Tyler Jones let Logan Park (Doug McNair), who also stuck to the outside, pass to the lead while approaching the half in :55.3.
Patriarch Hanover reignited the fight with a pocket pop as they turned for home, and they battled through three-quarters in 1:25. He had the lead down to a neck at the eighth pole, but Logan Park dug in to keep the lead into the final stages. After protracted resistance, Patriarch Hanover reached up to nail the 4/5 favourite in 1:52.1.
Logan Park was short by a neck. Walkonthemoon (Trevor Henry) got up for show in a four-horse finish for third. The winner returned $25.60.
LOGAN PARK REPLAY
Patriarch Hanover’s win was his first in the Free For All. He previously scored in a Preferred-2 and other conditioned events this season for trainer Richard Moreau. The stallion is 20-for-116 lifetime and has earned $679,831. Brad Grant of Milton owns the six-year-old.
He was the last of four winners on the night for Moreau. The 10-time trainer of the year also won with Bella Cavalla (Dover Dan, Louis-Philippe Roy, 1:54), Gigondas (Trixton, McNair, 1:53.2), and Press Time (Sportswriter, Sylvain Filion, 1:53.1).
Racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park will return on Friday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
