Harness racing trainer Tom Bain recorded his first double since 2016 on Tuesday (Nov. 7) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Money On The Beach (Sunshine Beach, Tyler Borth) romped in his first start for Bain in the third race. The gelding reached the lead at the half and pulled away in the stretch to score in 1:58.1 by four-and-three-quarter lengths. It was the sophomore geldingās first win in Ontario since shipping in from the Maritimes in July. As he improved his career record to three-for-17, he was also tallying his first for owners Vince Lombardi and Chris Mannina of Amherstberg.
MONEY ON THE BEACH REPLAY
To complete Bainās double, Dirtiest Piglet (Betterthancheddar) circled the field from post seven in his first pari-mutuel trip to London. Garrett Rooney took the filly three-wide from last coming down the backstretch, and she kicked into gear entering the final turn. She picked off rivals around the bend and surged by her four remaining opponents in the stretch for a half-length victory in 2:02.2.
DIRTIEST PIGLET REPLAY
Bain co-owns Dirtiest Piglet with Tim Campbell of St. Joachim and Daniel Lee of Windsor. The sophomore has now taken three wins in 11 career starts and has won back-to-back races.
Bainās last double came on Sep. 11, 2016 when Jimini Top and On A Cloud scored for the trainer at his home track of Leamington. He is eight-for-65 this season. He was also the mayor of Lakeshore, Ont. from 2006 to 2022 and operates Bain Racing Stables with his son David and grandson Nathan.
The Raceway at the Western Fair District is scheduled to continue racing on Friday, Nov. 10 at 5:50 p.m. EST.
