Lookinlikeamillion (Armbro Baylor) captured the 32nd Manitoba Futurity on Saturday (Sep. 7) at The Loop to break the harness racing track record for a three-year-old gelding.

The gelding was fourth to the quarter in :28 for Richard Remillard but swung out into the breeze to advance to the half in :58 and moved into range of leader Chasin Rainbows (Daryl Mason) by three-quarters in 1:29. Lookinlikeamillion battled past the pacesetter as they came around the final turn and drew off to complete a two-and-a-half-length victory in a career-best 2:01. Chasin Rainbows was second with Cartoon Kid (Marc Fillion) completed the triactor.

LOOKINLIKEAMILLION REPLAY

Lookinlikeamillion, fourth in last week’s Manitoba Great Western, is now five-for-12 lifetime with $28,448 in the bank. He won a division of the Golden Boy earlier this season. Tara Isman trains the gelding and co-owns him with Dr. Valerie Isman and Garett Isman.

First-time starter Wood Morning (Mystician) captured the Kindergarten Stake earlier on the card, defeating fellow Manitoba-bred rookies in a track-record performance. He chased down loose leader Shady Roan (Clayton Braybrook) coming down the backstretch and popped the pocket for Michel Rey to attack on the final turn. The former held the advantage into the stretch, but Wood Morning persisted and got by him in the stretch for a half-length score in 2:04.2.

The top two were in a race of their own; Van Goghing Fast (Fillion) was more than 18 lengths back in third.

Cartoon Kid set the previous record of 2:05.4 last year.

WOOD MORNING REPLAY

Wood Morning, trained by Braybrook, qualified once at Century Downs in the same time as his debut win on Saturday. Kevin Hildebrandt and Aurel Vodon bred and own the freshman colt.

Armycaptin Hanover (Captaintreacherous, Michel Rey) took the day’s Open, making it three straight in the top overnight class at the Loop. He grinded through a first-over march and finally overpowered Yru So Sirius (Glenn Le Drew) late to win in 1:59.3.

ARMYCAPTIN HANOVER REPLAY

Richard Rey trains Armycaptin Hanover, 48-time career winner with $338,251 in earnings, for Laverne Turnbull.

Racing will resume at The Loop on Saturday, Sep. 14.
