Woodbine Mohawk Park held another one of their usual 10-dash harness racing cards. Louis-Philippe Roy put on a driving clinic as he took care of business and won five races on the card.
Roy won his first race of the night in the second race with Coop A Loop (All Bets Off). Roy and his four-legged teammate sat patiently and finally made a move near the end to win by a head over Joker On Jack. The three-year-old pacing gelding set a new lifetime of 1:51.2. He beat out his old personal best of 1:52.4, which he achieved at Northfield Park in April of this year. Coop A Loop is currently trained by David Menary and is owned by Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi.
COOP A LOOP REPLAY
Roy made it back-to-back wins with Beyond Better (Bettors Delight) in the third race. It was another close finish as Roy and the six-year-old gelding charged very late from sixth place to win by just a neck over Matai Louis N. Beyond Better’s late effort was enough to get the win and match his lifetime mark of 1:49.1. Beyond Better is trainer, Robert McIntosh’s homegrown talent.
BEYOND BETTER REPLAY
To little surprise, Roy gets the natural hattrick with the fourth race’s post-time favourite, Powered By Mach (Mach Three). Right from the word go, the six-year-old mare jumped to the front end and wound up winning wire-to-wire. The timer read 1:50.2 after she crossed the finish line for her third straight win. Those are her only three wins of the year, but she finished in the top three eight times before that. Currently standing at 21-lifetime wins and a lifetime mark of 1:49.1
POWERED BY MACH REPLAY
In the seventh race, Roy returned to the winner’s circle. It was with Powertrain (Shadow Play) this time and was another close finish. The gelding has been shut out from the winner’s circle this year until now. Powertrain paced the mile in a solid 1:48.4, close to his lifetime mark of 1:48.2.
POWERTRAIN REPLAY
Roy got his fifth and final win of the night in the eighth race with Better B Bold (Betterthancheddar). The three-year-old pacing colt posted a new lifetime mark of 1:49.3 in his third career win. He only made one start as a two-year-old but is starting to find his form in his sophomore year. Better B Bold makes it two wins in a row after winning in the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold division last time.
BETTER B BOLD REPLAY
The feature race of the night, the Free For All, was won by Carbine (Somebeachsomewhere). Phillippe Hudon pushed his way right to the front as the race began and never gave up the lead. Carbine ended up winning by three-lengths and matched his lifetime mark of 1:47.4. Seventh win of the year and 19th lifetime for Carbine. He was bred by Let It Ride Stables and is still partially owned by them, along with Bottom Line Racing and Howard Taylor. Tony Alagna has been a trainer for the majority of Carbine’s racing career.
