Crytel Shadow (Shadow Play), a filly who had never hit the board, won on Wednesday, May 8 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District to give trainer Fred Drouillard his first win since 2021.
Brett MacDonald guided the filly to the wire-to-wire victory. She had her way through the first half and had no problem keeping the first-over Into Go (Andy Moore) at bay from three-quarters, holding strong to the line for a one-and-a-half-length score in 2:01. Into Go was second over Liquor Is Quicker (Nick Boyd).
CRYTEL SHADOW REPLAY
Drouillard purchased Crytel Shadow from the 2022 Harrisburg sale and sent her for her debut in 2023. The three-year-old finished fifth in each of her first three starts in 2024 before Wednesdayās win. Drouillardās last win came with Stonebridge Apollo in September 2021 at Hiawatha Horse Park, but that gelding was shut down after one more outing and has not raced since. The horseman didnāt record another start between then and Crytel Shadowās debut. Drouillard is 143-for-1,079 lifetime as a trainer with more than $1.3 million in earnings.
J One Twenty (Artspeak) won the night’s Fillies and Mares Preferred to go back-to-back in the class. The mare took over on the second turn for Tyler Borth and fended off the first-over Premier Delight (Jeff Hunt) from three-eighths, kicking clear late for the 1:56.1 victory. Premier Delight hung tough for place over Caesars Shot (MacDonald).
J ONE TWENTY REPLAY
J One Twenty is 17-for-37 lifetime with $101,294 in earnings for owners John Obrien and Jerry Sims. Sims trains the five-year-old.
