Hanover Raceway’s first card of the year on Saturday (Jun. 4) wasn’t only a big night for local harness racing fans – Westwardho Hanover mare Reademandweep saw the winner’s circle for the first time in 32 races as she took the sixth dash.
Natasha Day provided the four-year-old with a smart steer, putting her in the pocket behind Patwearsthepants (Bob McClure) through :29.1, 1:00, and 1:30.4 fractions. As the field swung for the lane, Day sent her charge three-wide and urged the mare clear of the first-over Anotherstarisborn (Travis Henry) for the victory in 2:02.3. Century Havana (Robert Jenkins Jr.) finished third. The winner returned $4.30.
READEMANDWEEP REPLAY
Rebecca Geisel trains Reademandweep, a homebred for Simon Hughes of Stratford. The mare had gone 31 starts without a win – her previous win was on Aug. 26, 2021 at Charlottetown. She is now four-for-49 lifetime and has earned $22,060.
Colin Kelly, Jonathan Drury, and Jason Ryan all collected driving doubles. John Kennedy conditioned two winners.
Bettors wagered $54,136 on the 10-race program.
Hanover Raceway will continue on a Saturday schedule until Sep. 17. The next card is set for Saturday, Jun. 11.
