Trois-Rivieres, QC – A classic harness racing battle will take place at the Hippodrome 3R Sunday (June 5) in the Preferred-Handicap Pace where a tough group of mares will clash to see who the reigning queen of the harness racing season.
The 5/2 mild favorite in the race is last week’s return winner, Whitemountaincammy (Yankee Cam) from post five for driver Stephane Brosseau.
Last week the four-year-old mare was at her best for Brosseau, getting great cover during the race and then striking out in the stretch to win by a half-length in 1:56.4.
Trained by Louis-Philippe Turcotte for owner-breeder Yves Gaudet of Nortre Dame De Bois, it was the first win in four starts for Whitemountaincammy, who was a six-time winner last season.
The second choice in the race is perhaps the prettiest horse in the field named Le Petite Grise (Sportswiter). The four-year-old gray mare was second last week to Whitemountaincammy for driver Pascal Berube and they start from post four.
Trained and co-owned by Fernard Jodoin with Michel Letrendre, Le Petite Grise cut the mile last week only to get caught at the wire by Whitemountaincammy in 1:56.4.
Prior to last week’s loss, Le Petite Grise has won two straight races, the fastest a five and one-half length romp in 1:57.
Platine Alpha (Control The Moment) is another major contender from post two for driver Kiwon Waldron. Two starts back she won in this class with a nose triumph in 1:58 against Whitemountaincammy.
Last year Platine Alpha was the winningest horse at H3R with nine wins for trainer Sylvain Tremblay, who Alpha Stable bred and owns the mare. It will be the first time that Waldron has driven the mare.
The horses do battle in the seventh race Preferred Pace where Spectrum Seelster (Mach Three, post 2) seeks to avenge his neck loss last week in 1:55 against Siddhartha.
Mickeymaksomespeed (Mickey Hanover, post 3) finished fourth for the first time off the board last week for driver Kiwon Waldron. Prior he had won this class and was second in his first two starts.
Also in the field are contenders Blue Moose (post 5) and D Gs De Vito (post 4).
First race post time is 12:00 noon. For a free race program, visit here.
