CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The finest Atlantic Sires harness racing two and three-year-old trotters will battle for supremacy in the Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s Stakes Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 11-dash program is set to begin at 6 P.M., Thursday evening at the capital oval.
Rocket Blast (E L Rocket) (To be driven by Corey MacPherson) will seek his fifth straight victory in the race 8 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s three-year-old trot colt class for a $10,975 purse. Carl Bagnall owns and trains the 12-time winner as he leaves from post 6 Thursday. His major foes are pegged as post 4 starter Dusty Lane Darby (Adam Merner) and Gettin Lit (Mike McGuigan).
West River Jet (E L Rocket) is the morning line favourite in the Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s stake for two-year-old trotting colts in race 6. The $12,050 division has West River Jet leaving from post 4 with Kenny MacDonald driving for trainer Clare MacDonald and owner Haley MacDonald. Arch-rival Dusty Lane Gus (Marc Campbell) has post 6 while Fire The Rocket (Jason Hughes) is a top entry from post 2.
Stablemates Supreme Rockette and Oceanview Nikki will go toe-to-toe in the $12,050 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s stake for two-year-old trotting fillies in race 3. McGuigan trains and drives post 3 starter Oceanview Nikki for owners Josh MacDonald and Blue Diamond Racing. Fellow McGuigan trainee Supreme Rockette (Gilles Barrieau) has post 2 for owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale. Dusty Lane Kahlua (Campbell) has hit the board in her last eight starts and has rail control Thursday from the Lenny Myers barn.
The Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s for three-year-old trotting fillies has attracted just three-entries and the $10,975 event will be held as a non-betting race at 5:45 P.M., before the official program. Dusty Lane Wee (Campbell) has post 1 for trainer Myers and owners Ron Gass and Garry MacDonald. Also in the field are Dusty Lane Mable (MacPherson) and Gettin Tipsy (McGuigan).
