Marloe Hanover made the trip to Georgian Downs on Saturday after three straight misses at Mohawk Park, and she broke the track record for aged pacing mares in a Preferred 2 Pace harness racing romp.
Driver Paul Mackenzie made his intentions clear with the Kindergarten Final winner, spurring her past Saulsborook Jessie (Brett Macdonald) to the front at the first turn. The Captaintreacherous mare headed the field at the quarter in :27.2, led through :55 and 1:22.4 middle fractions, and decided to put the race away on the final turn.
Marloe Hanover kicked away from her three rivals at three-quarters and blazed down the stretch under persistent urging from Mackenzie tp score in 1:50.1 by seven and a half lengths. Saulsbrook Jessie was powerless to compete with the superb winner but wrapped up the place spot. T C Scandal (Colin Kelly) finished third. The winner performed as the bettors expected, paying $2.10.
The 1:50.1 clocking topped a record that was set in 2011 by local legend Dreamfair Eternal and equaled in 2012 by Camille.
