Matteo (Up The Credit) fought to the front and led his Ontario-sired three-year-old pacing male rivals to the line to capture the Autumn Series final at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday (Oct. 25).
The colt motored away from post four and outpaced his three abreast harness racing opponents as they entered the first turn. He took the lead as they straightened onto the backstretch and continued to the quarter in :27.2.
Murrays Watching (Travis Cullen) brought pressure with a first-over advance at the half in :58.1 but was out of gas by three-quarters in 1:27. Matteo repelled that rival and sprinted home to victory in a career-best 1:56.1.
Hes Sporty (Colin Kelly) rode the pocket to a place finish. Shanghai James (Travis Cullen) passed Murrays Watching in the lane for third.
MATTEO REPLAY
Matteo, who recovered from a break to finish second in the second leg of the series, is now three-for-six lifetime after making his career debut in August. Mike Timpano trains the colt for Wendy Warren-Timpano of Phelpston and Douglas Taylor of Orillia.
It was Timpanoās third training win of the card, giving him a perfect evening. He also got home Arizona (Up The Credit, Tyler Borth, 1:56.3) and Lady Bonita (Shadow Play, Cullen, 2:00.1).
Action will continue at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on 4:50 p.m. EDT on Friday, Oct. 28.
