MILTON, ON – November 13, 2021 – Sophomore fillies squared off in the SBOA Stakes on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park to put a wrap on the 2021 Woodbine Standardbred harness racing stakes season.
The SBOA for Ontario sired three-year-old fillies saw full fields of 10 battle in a pair $144,825 finals.
Twin B Sunkissed prevailed in an exciting three across finish to win the filly pace final for driver Doug McNair and trainer Richard Moreau. The daughter of Sunshine Beach got a two-hole trip behind Voelz Delight, angling out in the lane and reaching the wire first to hold off a rallying Bet On Becky by a head and Voelz Delight by half a length.
“She’s pretty handy I think,” said McNair of Twin B Sunkissed. “She floated off the gate pretty good and got good positioning and we followed the horse we kind of thought would take us the distance and she did.”
After posting a :27 opener, Twin B Sunkissed followed Voelz Delight through fractions of :55.3 and 1:24.2. The Moreau trainee stopped the clock in 1:53.4.
Twin B Sunkissed was purchased in late October by Ecurie Csl and 9174 7998 Quebec Inc. and has now won two of three starts in the Moreau barn. Her latest victory improves her three-year-old totals to four wins and $186,643 earned in 15 starts, while boosting her career numbers to five wins and $312,755 earned in 26 outings.
A $2 win ticket on Twin B Sunkissed returned $14.40.
TWIN B SUNKISSED REPLAY
McNair completed the SBOA sweep just two races later, guiding Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion Up And Ready to a strong three-length victory in the filly trot final. The John Bax trainee cleared to the lead entering the backstretch and never looked back, putting away a rival at three-quarters and edging away to win in 1:56.3.
“She’s just been getting real good here near the end of the year,” said McNair of Up And Ready. “Little bit of money on the line and she got to gather it all up, so I was happy for all the connections, Marvin Katz, and Al Libfeld was here tonight, so it was just a great race.”
Up And Ready reached the half in :58.2 before being confronted by Wee Jill on the far turn, holding a length advantage at three-quarters in 1:27.3. The daughter of Kadabra was clearly the best, putting aside all challengers and cruising home in :29 over a ‘Good’ track for the victory.
Hp Mama B rallied for second, while Midnight Miracle edged Wee Jill for third.
Up And Ready late season success gives her three wins and $361,682 earned for her three-year-old season. The Bax trainee now sits with career totals of four wins and $552,434 earned for owners Al Libfeld, Marvin and Lynn Katz, and Sam Goldband.
A $2 win ticket on Up And Ready returned $3.40.
