Saulsbrook Tsunami (Mcwicked) got the monkey off his back while vying for the biggest purse of his harness racing career, breaking his maiden in the Ontario-sired Autumn Series final for two- and three-year-old pacing males at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday (Oct. 29).
The gelding, despite fourth place finishes in the first two legs, was sent off at 5/2. He found a seat third under the guidance of Brett MacDonald, tracking the pylons through a :28.1 first quarter, before commencing a move as the field rounded the second turn.
Saulsbrook Tsunami drew eye-to-eye with Peloton Seelster (Paul Mackenzie) at the half in :59.2 and clawed to a length lead as they raced through three-quarters in 1:27.3. He cleared on the final turn, led into the stretch, and resisted the charge of Convoy Twenty Two to win by three-quarters-of-a-length in 1:57.2.
Convoy Twenty Two motored to the line but was left frozen out. Wayne Stone (Peter Core) finished three-and-a-half-lengths back in third.
SAULSBROOK TSUNAMI REPLAY
Saulsbrook Tsunami was winless in his 16 prior starts with five on-the-board finishes. He has now earned $21,935 for owners MacDonald, Brent Maclennan of Charlottetown, Charlie Fitzpatrick of Montague, and G Thanks Stable of Guelph. Ron MacDonald trains the gelding.
The Raceway at the Western Fair District is scheduled to continue racing on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5:50 p.m. EDT.
