Mercedes (All Bets Off) motored to the front and lasted to the finish to win his fourth consecutive harness racing contest at Century Mile on Saturday (Nov. 9).
The stallion reached the front for Jean Francois Gagne as the field passed the quarter in :29.3Ā and led unopposed through :57.3 and 1:25.3 middle fractions. It came down to Mercedes and Came A Cavalier (Kelly Hoerdt) in deep-stretch, and Mercedes, under mild urging, held him off by three-quarters-of-a-length to win in 1:53.4. Matts A Mystician (Tyler Redwood) held onto third.
MERCEDES REPLAY
Mercedes has compiled an impressive record of 11 victories in 15 starts this season, including seven in his past eight. Brandon Campbell trains the stallion, who is now 13-for-24 lifetime with $68,436 in earnings, for Raymond Henry.
Trainer Travis Ellis earned a triple on the card. His trainees Im Outrageous Too (Outrageous Art, Mike Hennessy, 1:58.1), Trust Me A Lot (Trust The Artist, Hennessy, 1:55.4), and Flying Officer (Riverboat King, Hennessy, 1:56.1) all reached the winnerās circle. Ellis is winning at a 19.8 per cent rate this season with 61 victories from 307 starts.
