Mofford stays hot with Northside slam

Harness racing horseman Ardon Mofford rolled his hot start to the season into a second dominant week, winning four of the eight races at Northside Downs on Saturday (May 21).

Mofford made his first starts of 2022 at Northside on May 14 and went three-for-four as a trainer and driver during the six-race opening day program.

This week, he was four-for-six and again took half the card in the sulky while tripling in the conditioner role.

Mofford made his first visit to the winner’s circle after a brave effort from Dellas Playboy, who forged clear in the stretch and held off a closer for the 2:00.3 score despite never seeing the pylons. George Della Valle trains and owns his homebred, a four-year-old pacing son of American Gigolo. Dellas Playboy was one of Mofford’s winning mounts on May 14.

Whosyourfather gave Mofford his double at the lines and first training victory of the afternoon a race later. The Cougar Hall filly went from the three-hole to the lead in the third quarter and waved goodbye as she strode to a dominant eight-and-three-quarter-length score in 2:00.4. Mofford trains her for Debra Rankin of Dutch Brook. The filly has won three of her seven career outings for $3,733 in earnings and is undefeated in two starts for Mofford this season.

WHOSYOURFATHER REPLAY

Mofford produced an early blast from Sauble Bonnie in the fifth race, and she was never headed in a 2:00.3 upset win at 7-1 odds. Mofford also owns and trains the eight-year-old Shadow Play mare.

SAUBLE BONNIE REPLAY

Mofford completed his grand slam behind Dont Tell Kim in the finale. The four-year-old daughter of Source Of Pride, with whom the reinsman won last week, got by late after a first-over effort for the victory in 2:02.1. Mofford trains the mare for Tonya Mofford of Florence.

DONT TELL KIM REPLAY

Mofford is now seven-for-10 in the sulky this season and has six wins in eight tries as a trainer.
