Announcer Ken Middleton said it best: Logan Park (Archangel) opened up “a can of you-know what.”
The 2023 O’Brien Award winner put the smackdown on his Preferred harness racing opponents in his yearly debut at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (May 6).
Jody Jamieson had him on top in a flash, and none of the gelding’s five rivals dared to move through :28 and :58.2 first-half panels. An outside flow began to form entering the final turn, but Logan Park was already five lengths clear at three-quarters in 1:25.4. No work was needed from Jamieson as the 2023 Breeders Crown finalist cruised to a five-and-a-quarter-length victory in 1:52.4.
Franks Angel (Trevor Henry) was second with Patriarch Hanover (Sylvain Filion) getting up for third with late trot.
LOGAN PARK REPLAY
The victory was the 25th lifetime for Logan Park in 65 career starts. He went 11-for-15 at the top trotting level of Woodbine Mohawk Park, Canada’s premiere track, last year and finished fourth in the Breeders Crown Final. His efforts earned him the O’Brien Award for Older Trotting Horse. The six-year-old has now earned $1,087,192 lifetime for Outofthepark Stable of Rockwood, Reg Higgs of Ilderton, and Arpad Szabo of Bradford. Kyle Fellows trains the gelding.
Jamieson went on to win the next four races in a row. The reinsman scored with Mach Impact (Mach Three, 1:52.3), Full Disclosure (Sweet Lou, 1:52.4), Mrmayor Hanover (Explosive Matter, 1:53.1), and Sir A (Control The Moment, 1:52.4). He ended the night with a five-win haul.
The next program is scheduled for Thursday, May 9 with a 7:10 p.m. EDT first post.
