Moosette closed from the backfield to claim victory as she stepped up to face Century Downs’ best harness racing fillies and mares on Tuesday in the track’s Open Pace.

The four-year-old Hes Watching mare dropped back from the gate for driver Brandon Campbell and remained stationary in sixth through the :29.1 first quarter mile and :58.2 half. Moosette made a third-over move on the backstretch but switched back to the pylons at three-quarters in 1:27.1 to dodge a stalling Outlaw Fireball (Paul Giesbrecht).

Moosette rolled back to the outside and chased down the leaders as they began the charge for home. Tajmeallover (Jean Francois Gagne) and Mrs Suhwiggins (Michael Hennessy) tired after their far turn battle for the front, and Moosette unleased a surplus of energy to fly by both for the 1:57 victory.

Tajmeallover stayed in front of Mrs Suhwiggins for second.

MOOSETTE REPLAY

Michael Campbell trains Moosette for owner/breeder Shale Stables of Merritt. The horse has now earned $56,414 and has won eight of 25 career starts.

The Campbell partnership racked up three wins on the day, also sending out Shoot The Whiskey (1:59.2) in the fifth and Bad Rossa (1:59.2) in the ninth.

Icy Blue Scooter won his first race since Jun. 15 as he followed cover second-over and powered past his cover in a stretch duel to win the card’s other Open Pace in 1:54.1. Nathan Sobey drives, trains, and co-owns the eight-year-old son of Blue Burner. Diane Bertrand and Robert Gilhespy of Edmonton share ownership. The horse is 31-for-153 lifetime with $248,720 in earnings.

ICY BLUE SCOOTER REPLAY

Century Downs hosts two $50,000 stakes finals for Alberta-bred, owned, or foaled three-year-old pacers on its next card on Sunday, Aug. 22. The Shirley McClellan Breeders’ Stake for fillies and the Moore’s Mile Breeders’ Stake for males will both go forward. First post is set for 2:15 p.m. MDT.
