Moosette (Hes Watching) reached peak form on Thursday (Oct. 13) at Fraser Downs as she earned her first Fillies and Mares Open victory of the harness racing meet.
She staked her claim for the early lead but backed down to third as Hottieonthehorizon (Richard Lancaster) went forward to the front. Brandon Campbell pulled Moosette to the outside just after hitting the quarter in :27.3 and had her quickly around the two in front of her, but Mystic Shadow (Bradley Watt) stormed by her instantly to take the lead.
The latter went to the half in :55.3, and Moosette made another first-up move to attack her as they passed three-quarters in 1:23.4. Mystic Shadow battled on but was dead game by mid-stretch, and Moosette pushed clear to score by a length-and-a-quarter in 1:53.
In High Cotton (Scott Night) closed from fifth to second. Hottionthehorizon was just behind in third.
MOOSETTE REPLAY
Moosette was a fifth of a second off her career best in the win, her 20th lifetime. The five-year-old homebred has raked in $148,729 in 58 starts for Shale Stables of Merritt. Jim Marino trains the mare.
Marino trained three other winners during the program, with Campbell steering each. Oh Look At Me (Sportswriter, 1:56.3) opened the trainerās account. Myomylookatmefly (Lambretta, 1:53.3) won the fifth and Biggio (Bettors Delight, 2:00.4) was given the sixth through disqualification.
Fraser Downs will now move to a Sunday-Monday schedule for the rest of the season, beginning on Oct. 23.
