CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Navalny (Control The Moment) capped off a Saturday night driving triple for Adam Merner in the featured harness racing pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Melissa Rennie trained Navalny sat second in the $3,300 Preferred 2 pace while pacesetter Fern Hill General (Driven by Brodie MacPhee) cut out the fractions of 28.1, 58.2 and 1:27.2.
Navalny fired in the final stanza to win by one-length in 1:55.3 for owners Dale and Ronnie Rennie of Elmsdale. Moonwriter (Ken Murphy) was second with Fern Hill General third.
Merner also won with the Jamie Smith trained Brumby (1:55.1) and with Ladylike (1:54.3) for trainer Colin Johnson. Red Shores and Standardbred Canada also honoured caretakers on the card during National Caretaker Appreciation Day.
Mark Bradley had a driving triple on the program as the Charlottetown native now sits six wins shy of the 1,000-win plateau. Bradley steered Buddysvirgins to a 1:57.1 victory for trainer Tom Weatherbie and also won with Check Your Source in 1:56.2 for trainer Mike McGuigan and with Smart Official in 1:56.2 for trainer Saul Lanigan. Lanigan had a pair of victories as driver Murphy opened up the program winning with Melanies Magic in 1:56.3 in race 1.
