Points North’s (Somebeachsomewhere) 2025 harness racing campaign kicked off with a major milestone on Saturday (Feb. 1) at Woodbine Mohawk Park as the gelding reached $1 million in career earnings.

He was pointed forward from the gate by Jonathan Drury and carved out the mile with fractions of :27.3, :57.3, and 1:26.3 on the lead. Larceny (Billy Davis Jr.) was the most immediate threat as they turned for home, but Gentleonmymind (Colin Kelly) emerged off cover late and reeled in the leader. Points North held him off by a half-length to prevail in 1:55.1 and become the sport’s newest millionaire.
POINTS NORTH REPLAY
Points North earned most of his $1,004,278 bankroll the hard way, having cashed more than $30,000 in a single race on only three occasions. The gelding was a Kindergarten Series champion at two and has won 47 races in 227 lifetime starts. Carmen Auciello trains the 10-year-old for Jim and David Winske.
Powertrain (Shadow Play) captured the night’s $36,000 Preferred to take back-to-back top-level paces at the oval. Away fourth from the rail in a :27.3 first panel, James MacDonald sent him on a backstretch brush to reach the engine at the half in :57. Powertrain led unopposed to three-quarters in 1:25.4 and neutralized pocket-sitter Pacino Hanover (Travis Cullen) down the lane to complete the 1:52.3 win by a length-and-three-quarters.
Pacino Hanover was second, a length-and-a-quarter ahead of Poseidon Seelster (Bob McClure).
POWERTRAIN REPLAY
Powertrain, who races for Nick Gallucci and Millar Farms, is two-for-three on the year. The seven-year-old upped his lifetime totals to 15 victories and $438,945 in 54 attempts with Saturday’s win.
The next card at Woodbine Mohawk Park is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3, beginning at 6:30 p.m. EST.
