No Control (Control The Moment) came off a 26-day hiatus following his Ontario-sired Spring Series win and blitzed out a harness racing mile that beat his previous best by more than a second on Friday (May 19) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The gelding, driven by Tyler Jones, circled Ace Of Aces for the lead after a :27 first panel, which became the final lead change of the race. No Control set a :55.3/1:23.3 tempo and resisted Ace Of Aces down the stretch to score by three-quarters of a length in 1:50.3. Ace Of Aces finished second. Nytro J (Trevor Henry) was third throughout.
NO CONTROL REPLAY
The victory keeps No Control perfect in four starts this year. He swept the Ontario-sired Spring Series in April but rested for nearly a month before Fridayās win. His prior best was 1:51.4, set on Apr. 14. The sophomore has earned $69,970 on six wins and a show in seven career starts. Tan Micallef trains the gelding and co-owns him with Keira Liberte of Hagersville and Ian Clarke of Guelph.
Also on the card, 2022 Breeders Crown finalist Sweet Amira (Sweet Lou, Louis-Philippe Roy) returned to action with a seasonal debut victory in 1:51.1. The three-year-old filly was two lengths the best as she notched her second lifetime win in seven starts for trainer Chantal Mitchell. The Lindsey and Connie Rankin-owned filly earned a cheque in five Grand Circuit races last year, including the Breeders Crown and Eternal Camnation finals.
SWEET AMIRA REPLAY
The racing week concludes at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a 10-race card that includes the SBOA Stakes finals. The four divisions for Ontario-sired sophomores total $542,600. First post is 6:30 p.m. EDT.
