CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – There was no stopping the freight train that was Woodmere Skyroller as the harness racing mare devastated her foes in the stretch drive to win the Thursday evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Rolling off cover in the final panel, Woodmere Skyroller (Rollwithitharry) was shown open road by driver Corey MacPherson and mowed down her competition in the featured $3,100 Fillies and Mares preferred pace stopping the clock in 1:54.3. Pacesetter Arc Light (Driven by Marc Campbell) was one and one-half lengths back in second with Larjon Legacy (Gilles Barrieau) closing for third.
Kevin MacLean trains the winning mare for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford.
Campbell had a pair of wins from his own barn on the night as Freddie won the $2,400 top trot in 1:58.1 and Plain Jane was a 1:57.1 winner.
Barrieau continues his grip on the driver’s standings with three wins on the night. The O’Brien award winner crossed the line first with Fern Hill Fancy (1:59) from his own barn and with Pacific Delight (1:56.1) for trainer Ron Matheson. Barrieau’s other win came aboard Mystifying as the Darryl MacLean trained daughter of Source Of Pride laid down the fastest mile of the East Coast season by a three-year-old Atlantic bred filly in an eye catching 1:54.2.
Live racing continues Saturday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown and Sunday afternoon at 1 P.M. at Red Shores Summerside.
