Despite racing over a track labeled good with a one second variance, Oney Hall and driver Trevor Henry had little trouble navigating the harness racing over at Woodbine Mohawk Park Monday.
Competing in the 9th race $36,000 Preferred Trot, Henry sent Oney Hall, the overwhelming 1/5 favorite, out for the early lead and they overtook Derf Hanover (James MacDonald) by the opening quarter mile in :28.2.
It was all Oney Hall from that point on as he held the field at bay through the half mile in :57.4. Perfetto (Dagfin Henriksen) came first-over with Pikachu Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) following the second-over cover to the three-quarters in 1:26.2.
But Oney Hall was not going to be beaten and as they came down the stretch, he pulled away from the field to win by three open lengths in 1:54.3. Perfetto was second with Dream Nation (Scott Young) closing for third place.
ONEY HALL REPLAY
It was the fourth straight win for Oney Hall. The five-year-old gelded son of Deweycheatumnhowe, who will be heading overseas soon to compete in the prestigious Elitloppet Trot in Sweden, is trained by Robert McIntosh for owner Alan Leavitt of Lexington, KY. Leavittās Walnut Hall Limited bred the horse who paid $2.60 to win.
