Opening Day at Track On 2: HNU Picks & Analysis

Sunday (June 23) is the first day of harness racing on the 2024 calendar at Track On 2. The mile-long track in Lacombe, Alberta will host eight dashes and has various wagering options. The prime wager would be the Pick 5 which starts in the fourth race.

 The Pick 5 starts with the $5,300 feature. Avas Angel Baby (Sunshine Beach) is looking for her first win of the year but has come close with a pair of second-place finishes. She has been consistently earning checks at Century Downs and the move to the bigger track might be just what she needs.

Avas Angel Baby’s last win came at Woodbine Mohawk Park late last year. She picked up her second career win in 1:56.2. Her only other win was paced in a slightly faster 1:56. Jamie Gray will be in the sulky for trainer Donna Sarin.

AVAS ANGEL BABY REPLAY

Lunch Pail Guy (Santanna Blue Chip) won earlier this month and achieved a new lifetime mark of 1:57.0 in the process. It was also his fourth win of the year and fifth of his career. The four-year-old gelding has finished in the top three in eight of his twelve 2024 starts. David Kelly will be in the bike along with Lunch Pail Boy.

LUNCH PAIL GUY REPLAY

Lumber Baron (Captive Audience) is another to watch out for. He only has three wins in his career, and one has come in 2024. His sole victory this year came at Century Mile where he paced the mile for 1:57.3. His lifetime mark of 1:53.2 was achieved at Track On 2 and a similar effort will be needed to win this one. Nathan Sobey teams up with the four-year-old gelding.
