Outlaw Sharktastic (Smart Shark) stopped the dominance of Electric Amadeus in the Fillies and Mares Preferred at Century Downs on Saturday (Apr. 8) as part of a big night for trainer/driver Nathan Sobey.
Electric Amadeus (David Kelly), entering the race with a streak of seven on the line, raced third through the opening half while Outlaw Sharktastic and Sobey pushed to the lead in fractions of :28.2 and :57.1.
Outlaw Sharktastic gave the lead up to Electric Amadeus on the backstretch but moved back out to attack just after hitting three-quarters in 1:25.2. Electric Amadeus resisted fiercely down the stretch, but Outlaw Sharktastic finished her off in the final strides to score in 1:55.3.
Electric Amadeus was a length short. Pirate Booty (Terry Kaufman) finished third.
OUTLAW SHARKTASTIC REPLAY
Outlaw Sharktastic moved to new connections in late April and is now two-for-two for owners Nathan Sobey, Glenn Pinel, and Paul Davies. Sobey trains the five-year-old mare who has won seven of 59 career outings and has earned $65,219.
The win was one of four driving and training victories for Sobey on the day. He also steered to victory Hf Pans Shadow (Santanna Blue Chip, 1:58.2), Lisplaced (Lis Mara, 1:58), and Miso Classy (In The Irons, 1:57.3). His training wins were with Outlaw Sharktastic, Miso Classy, Festiveus (Vertical Horizon, 2:00), and Matts A Mystician (Mystician, 1:55).
Century Downs will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 15.
