CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The oldest harness racing stakes race in Canada will continue its historic run Thursday evening with P.E.I. Colt Stakes action at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital track has a 6 P.M. opening post time for the 13-dash program with the marquis event taking place in race 3 in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts.
Mr Finlay Ridge found the wire first last week and has post 3 in this week’s $8,950 contest for trainer-driver Clare MacDonald, who co-owns the son of Armbro Barrister with Ian Tate and Arnold Rankin of Nova Scotia. A winner of 10 races from 16-lifetime starts, Mr Finlay Ridge will take on his two greatest foes again this week.
MR FINLAY RIDGE REPLAY (SEP. 9)
A Little Go Go (To be driven by Marc Campbell) has post 2 while Dusty Lane Milo (Gilles Barrieau) leaves from post 4.
Peter MacPhee likes Mr Finlay Ridge to repeat for the win in the Post Time Picks. “We loved the way Mr Finlay Ridge raced last week drafting all the way and reaching up at the very end to get the gold. He gets the same track, same post, same driver and the same result this week.”
Rich Daydreams will attempt knock off her trotting foes in the three-year-old filly division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes in race 9 for a $8,950 pot. Kenny Arsenault drives the Wade Peconi-owned son of Armbro Barrister from his own stable with post 6 on the starting gate.
The first division of two-year-old trotting colts is in race 2 and sees Up Helly AA favoured in the $6,750 split with Ken MacDonald in the driver’s seat from his wife’s Clare MacDonald stable.
The second rookie colt division is in race 5 as Maritime Breeders winner Mr Miller is the top selection from post 5 for trainer-driver Corey MacPherson.
The $6,750 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old trot filly division is in race 7 with Berts Legacy the top choice off the rail for driver Paul Lanigan and trainer William Lanigan.
The $2,700 Open trot rakes the stage in race 11 featuring a dynamic field including Daisy River (Jason Hughes), Cheeky Little Minx (Barrieau) and Freddie (Campbell).
