CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – There was no denying Marc Campbell during the Saturday evening harness racing card at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on the second half of a P.E.I. Colt Stakes doubleheader as the Orwell driver clicked for five wins.
Campbell swept the $13,550 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old pacing colt Gold divisions winning the first split with returnee Bettim Again in a new lifetime best of 1:53.3 from the George Rennison barn for owners Jeff Lilley, Christina Lecky, Blair MacLauchlan and Ian MacDonald.
The son of Malicious was making his first start on the East Coast in 2021 after racing the Ontario circuit all summer.
The other division was a 1:52.1 blowout by Woodmere Stealdeal for driver Campbell, trainer Danny Romo and owner Kevin Dorey, Glenn MacDonald, Robert Sumarah and Frank Brundle.
Campbell also captured a $6,350 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old pacing filly grassroots division with KCK Girlies in 1:56 for trainer Mike McGuigan.
The other filly grassroots split was won by Havarti (Driven by Paul Langille) in 1:56.1.
Campbell also visited the winner’s circle a pair of times from his own barn in the $5,130 Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares division with Dreamfair Zenfire (1:53.3) and in the $3,400 preferred pace with Time To Dance (1:52.2).
The $6,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes sophomore pacing colt grassroots splits were won by Pictonian I Am (Jason Hughes) in 1:58.3 and Woodmere Fenn (Gilles Barrieau) in 1:56.
Tobins Brownie left her foes in the dust in the first $13,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old pacing filly Gold division winning in 1:55.4 for trainer-driver David Dowling and owners Alex Quinn, Carl Peterson, Amy Lakie and Brittany Watts.
Mystifying delivered in her $13,000 Gold split with a new track record for three-year old fillies and lifetime best in 1:53.3 for driver Barrieau, trainer and co-owner Darryl MacLean and co-owners Gordon MacLean and Stephen Downey.
