P L Rainbow Dash (Resolve) prevailed in a final-quarter harness racing battle to complete a sweep of the Ontario-sired Harvest Series in the $45,100 Final for two-year-old trotting fillies on Monday (Nov. 6) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The filly, who was winless before the start of the series, worked to the front from post eight for Bob McClure and cut a :28.3 first quarter. She cruised to the half in :59.1, and Radical Legacy (Doug McNair) tipped out to go after the leader approaching the final turn.
Radical Legacy quickly caught P L Rainbow Dash and pushed forward for a narrow lead as they passed the third station in 1:27.2. The duel continued into the stretch with the fillies matching strides to the eighth pole and into deep-stretch, when P L Rainbow Dash began to pull back her advantage. Radical Legacy was dogged to the wire, but P L Rainbow Dash pulled back in front by a half-length for the victory in 1:56.2.
Muscone (Anthony Haughan) led the rest of the pack home from 11 lengths back of second in third.
P L RAINBOW DASH REPLAY
P L Rainbow Dash is now three-for-eight and has earned $98,152. She had no wins in five starts against elite company but placed in an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold and finished third in the Super Final. Katie Huskinson trains the Prince Lee Acres hombred.
The two-year-old pacing fillies also contested their Harvest Series Final on the card. Tamara Hanover (Artspeak, Travis Cullen) gave up the lead at the quarter, pulled second-over on the final turn, and slingshotted past her cover to take the $47,200 contest in 1:52.3. One More Bet (Sylvain Filion) held second after reaching the lead on the far turn. Quiet Assurances (Bruce Richardson) went from seventh to third with a burst at the top of the lane.
TAMARA HANOVER REPLAY
Tamara Hanover has five wins in eight attempts for trainer Melissa Lamoreux. The filly won a leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots in her debut and the first preliminary leg of the Harvest Series. She has raked in $58,890 for 1189422 Ontario Inc.
After a tight loss last time, Amigo Volo (Father Patrick, Anthony Haughan) was on the right side of the photo in the nightās $36,000 Preferred. He dueled on level terms with Oney Hall (James MacDonald) down the stretch and got up by head late in 1:53.1. Oney Hall was a strong second with Pemberton (Trevor Henry) three-and-a-half lengths adrift in third.
AMIGO VOLO REPLAY
The victory ended a streak of four consecutive place finishes for the gelding at the Free For All/Preferred level of Woodbine Mohawk Park, the last of which was by a nose. Owners Pinske Stables of Plato and Dave Miller of Lake Mary moved the double Breeders Crown champion to Ontario from the United Stakes in September. He has not missed the board since and has not finished worse than second for trainer Meg Crone. The gelding has now won 30 of his 81 career starts and has earned $2,333,726.
Woodbine Mohawk Park is set to continue racing on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7:10 p.m. EST. The 10 races will include the Harvest Series Finals for two-year-old males of both gaits, worth a total of $95,900.
