Passionate Prince captured the latest round of the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society (OSAS) 25th Anniversary Race on Saturday at Kawartha Downs.
The five-year-old Mach Three harness racing gelding took charge early for Tyler Jones and kept all foes behind for his second ā and fastest ā victory of the season. He joins Better Watch It and The Reins Of Titan in winning an OSAS Race – the third in a series of dashes at tracks across Ontario to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the organization.
OSAS volunteer Sheila Jopling, along with Lindsay Bax and Jason Woodward, presented a commemorative cooler and swag bag to the winning connections. Jopling worked with the Kawartha Downs marketing department ā which included Bax ā to provide a food source for horsepeople after the Fraserville, Ont. racecourse closed its track kitchen in 2018. Woodward, a trainer, driver, and backup starter at Kawartha Downs, helped complete a recent adoption by delivering a horse, Foamy, to Tara Cameron, who was battling cancer.
OSAS is a non-profit organization that works to find new owners for retired standardbred racehorses. It has helped to find homes for more than 1,000 horses since its inception in 1996, according to the organizationās website.
OSAS Day at the Races is scheduled to continue on Sunday, Aug. 22 at Leamington Raceway. For a full schedule, click here.
