SUMMERSIDE, PE – A full day of two-year-old harness racing stakes races saw lots of action on Sunday (Aug. 27) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The 13-dash card saw 10 divisions of the Lady Slipper Stake for two-year-old pacing fillies along with the Joe O’Brien Memorial stake for two-year-old pacing colts.
Chip Of Evil retained her undefeated record in a $21,100 Lady Slipper Gold division for rookie fillies, as Corey MacPherson steered the Arthur Blue Chip lass to a 1:56.4 score over Starship Beauty (Driven by Patrick Shepherd) and Goodmorning Nova (Gilles Barrieau). Eddy Doucette trains the filly for owner Inarush Stable as she extends her record to four-straight from as many starts.
The other $21,100 Lady Slipper Gold split featured more MacPherson as part of a four-bagger for the Cornwall driver, who landed on top with Miss Wicked in 1:56.1 over Wednesday (Myles Heffernan Sr.) and Rollwithitdarling (Barrieau). Joe Baxter trains the winning daughter of McWicked for Blaine Thibeau of Kensington.
The $10,550 Lady Slipper Grassroots divisions were won by Downtown Tonight (Brodie MacPhee) in 2:01, Dusty Lane Dixie (Barrieau) in 2:00 and High Roller (Adam Merner) in 1:57.4.
In Joe O’Brien Memorial Gold action for two-year-old pacing colts, Jackies Boy went all the way in his $18,550 contest with Tobins Chester (Jason Hughes) finishing second to have his win streak snapped at five-straight while Little Leroy (MacPherson) was third. Myles Heffernan Sr., drives Jackies Boy for owner-trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., of Summerville. Time of the mile was 1:57.3 for the front-stepping son of Tobago Cays.
Merigo Magic was a winner in 1:57.3 in his $18,550 O’Brien Gold race for driver Merner and trainer Melissa Rennie, who had a pair of victories on the program. Owned by Mike May, Derrick Cameron, Herman McQuaid and Ian Walker, the Tobago Cays rookie finished ahead of Howmac General (Shepherd) and Tobins Barn Party (Hughes).
Southfield Patrick (MacPherson) captured his $9,275 O’Brien Grassroots assignments in 1:58.4 along with fellow Grassroots winners Marleys Boy (Dowling) in 2:01.2 and Allaboutthecash (Marc Campbell) in 1:57.
Jessiejesorjessica (Dowling) was the best in the $4,600 leg of the Island Oceans Trot Series, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables, with a 1:58.2 clocking from the Jennifer Doyle stable.
