Rose Run Vortex (American Ideal) pulled an 18-1 harness racing upset as the longest shot on the board by a nose in the Preferred Handicap Pace at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday (May 22).
The gelding capitalized on perfect conditions in the win. Colin Kelly gave him a pocket trip from the pylon post. Cheddar Bay (J. Bradley Harris) led through :28, :58, and 1:26.2 panels while fending off No Plan Intended (Tyler Borth). Rose Run Vortex then flew up the inside down the stretch and had just enough to beat Cheddar Bay by a nose in 1:55. St Lads Cash (Travis Henry) motored home and finished third.
ROSE RUN VORTEX REPLAY
The winner was sent off at 18-1 off the back of fifth-place finish at the same level a week prior and his most recent victory coming in a lower condition. The six-year-old is 10-for-93 lifetime and broke the six-digit earnings barrier with the win. Terry Gallant trains and co-owns him with Stacey Smith Robinson of South Mountain.
The Raceway is now in its final week of racing for the meet and will continue on Tuesday, May 23 at 5:50 p.m. EDT.
