Harness racing driver Trevor Henry set Pikachu Hanover up perfectly in the Woodbine Mohawk Park $34,000 Preferred, and the horse capitalized.
Henry accepted the pocket spot as Treasured Tee (Doug McNair) motored to the top before the first turn, and the leader carved out a :26.4 first quarter mile and a half in :55.4 with Pikachu Hanover biding his time in second. Henry swung Pikachu Hanover to the outside prior to hitting three-quarters in 1:24.1 as Perfetto (Dagfin Henriksen) edged closer on the outside.
Pikachu Hanover grinded away into the stretch against a defiant Treasured Tee, but the latter capitulated at the eighth pole and Pikachu Hanover thundered home for the 1:53.1 score. Treasured Tee continued battling after losing the lead and finished second by three quarters of a length. Perfetto sustained his first-over bid and took show. The winner paid $5.50.
