The Loop held nine harness racing dashes Saturday afternoon (Sep. 2), and the duo of Blake Piwniuk and Trevor Williams added another five wins to their respective totals. Two of the wins were in the Golden Boy and Silk Lace Stakes.
A field of eight three-year-old fillies was fighting over the purse of $7,671 in the Silk Lace Stakes. Maching Millions (Andreoli Hanover) gets her third straight win since coming to Manitoba and her sixth win of the year. The young pacer got the lead after the half and finished the mile at 2:02.3. The Williams-Piwniuk tandem continues dominating Canada’s newest harness track.
A couple of races later, the three-year-old colt and geldings had their chance in the Golden Boy Stakes. Six entrants were out on the oval trying to earn their share of the $7,608 purse. The Williams’ entry, Irish Luke (Youshouldseemenow), won and did so in the time of 2:04.0. The young colt now has back-to-back wins as he won the MSSBA Futurity elimination last week. Four of his last five starts have ended with Irish Luke in the winner’s circle.
The day’s first win for Williams and Piwniuk came with Sport Jewels (Sportswriter). The young gelding has back-to-back wins since coming to Manitoba. He will have a short turnaround as he is scheduled to race again tomorrow (Sep. 3). The five-year-old gelding Tuff As Buff (Sunshine Beach)Ā and the three-year-old filly Handcuffed (Captive Audience) were the other two winners for the Williams’ stable.
Blake Piwniuk has 32 driving wins in 2023, and it only took 51 starts to accomplish that. He has earned $81,735 in prize money while being in the sulky this year. Trevor Williams has very similar trainer stats this year, with 30 wins in 54 starts and $81,206 in prize money.
The Loop will have a quick, four-race card on Sunday (Sep. 3) beginning at 2:00 p.m.
