CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Devouring ground in the final quarter, Plain Jane (Shadow Play) rewarded her backers in upset fashion in the Thursday (June 22) evening featured harness racing event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Under the guidance of catch-driver Corey MacPherson, the Marc Campbell trained Plain Jane came second-over from the backfield to win the $3,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace in 1:54.1 for owners Faith and Leigh Gavin of Sea Cow Pond at 7-1 odds. Dreamfair Zenfire (Driven by Campbell) was second while Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes) finished third.
Campbell had a driving triple himself as The Lady Sheriff (1:57.1) won race 10 from his Orwell barn, Shes So Sweet (1:54.3) won from the Colin Johnson stable and Ms Chantalmachabay (1:57.1) won the Hillside Chevrolet Drive For Home Series Dash in race 7 for trainer Ken Wilkie.
Sugar Bowl continued her East Coast perfection in the evening finale, winning in 1:54.4 for trainer-driver Jason Hughes. The four-year-old Sweet Lou mare is owned by Tommy Collings along with first-time horse owner Brian MacPhee, both of Mount Stewart. Hughes also visited the winner’s circle with Saulsbrook Honey (1:56.2) from his own Charlottetown stable in race 4.
Veteran driver Kenny Arsenault scored a training and driving double as Akrotiri (1:59.2) captured the opener and My Secret Ability (2:03.2) won race 3.
New Legacy (Adam Merner) won the $3,100 Open Trot by open lengths for trainer Johnson in 1:57 over Jessiejesorjessica (David Dowling) and Freddie (Campbell).
The Future Stars will take to track on Friday evening with 12 two-year-old qualifiers starting at 5:30 P.M.
Live racing continues Saturday evening with a special 5 P.M. Post Time featuring the Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s for three-year-old pacers and the Cecil Ladner Memorial Invitational.
