Charmbo Prince (Royalty For Life) was spared by the line in the Monday (Sep. 12) harness racing Preferred Trot at Grand River Raceway as he prevailed over the closing Scene A Magician.
The pair left in the last two spots as leaders battled to the quarter in :27.4. Charmbo Prince (Paul Mackenzie) began a first-over march with Scene A Magician (Garrett Rooney) on his back at the half in :57. The former stormed by the leader before hitting three-quarters in 1:27.
Scene A Magician reeled him in to the conclusion but was a nose too late as Charmbo Prince sealed the victory in 1:57.
Kameran Hanover (Tyler Moore) was third.
CHARMBO PRINCE REPLAY
The win was Charmbo Princeās first Preferred start of the season after spending much of it at conditioned levels. John Rier of Kitchener trains the five-year-old, whom he co-owns with co-breeder Randy Rier of Hanover. The gelding has earned $148,124 and won 14 times in 61 lifetime tries.
Grand River Raceway will continue racing on Wednesday, Sep. 14 at 6:30 p.m. EDT. The card will feature four divisions of the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots fifth leg for two-year-old pacing fillies.
