So Much More (Big Jim) became harness racing’s newest millionaire on Friday (Aug. 5) at Woodbine Mohawk Park as she won the $38,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap.
James MacDonald hustled the mare on the engine after a slow start in a :26.4 first quarter but soon saw the helmet of Doug McNair, who circled Shes Nun Bettor N from the pocket in the second panel. The latter hit the half in :55.2 and three-quarters in 1:24.2.
Roy summoned So Much More from the pocket as they straightened for home, and the mare fought past Shes Nun Bettor N in the lane for the victory in 1:50.4.
Shes Nun Bettor N was second by a neck. Kickupyaheels N (Trevor Henry) followed the top two throughout to a show placing.
SO MUCH MORE REPLAY
So Much More’s career earnings now total $1,002,448. The Don Beatson trainee has won 49 of 111 lifetime starts. Beatson co-owns with Kenneth Beatson of Palgrave and Cole England of Exeter.
Also on the card, two-year-old Stockade Seelster stayed perfect in the Dream Maker second leg for freshman pacing males. He crushed the field by five-and-a-quarter lengths in a 1:51.4 mile. Jody Jamieson drove the colt for trainer Dr. Ian Moore and owning partners Sally Macdonald of Souris and Paul Macdonald of Toronto. The final of the Dream Maker is set for Friday, Aug. 12.
