The Prospect Series, the third tier of sires stakes harness racing in Ontario, began with leg 1A at Flamboro Downs on Saturday (May 20) with five total division.
There were two divisions for each sex of pacers and one for trotting colts
The winners were:
- Acefortyfour Elvis (Il Sogno Dream, J. Bradley Harris) by two-and-a-half lengths in 1:57.3 in the race for trotting colts. Impressive Dude (Daryl Thiessen) was the only other horse in his realm; Hamilton De Vie (Jason Ryan) was nearly 19 lengths back in third.
- Maple (Sportswriter, Thiessen) found late pace despite a tough trip to power past Prevail Seelster (Travis Henry) and take the first filly pace division in 1:57. The Isaac Waxman-trained filly beat the pacesetter by a length. Two Across Marion (Jason Ryan) finished third.
- It Takes Two (Artspeak, Lorne House), fighting off Parsons (Thiessen) in the first colt pace group to win in 1:56.1. The latter was beaten a length. Sharky (Paul Mackenzie) took the show spot.
- Dewitt This Moment (Control The Moment, Ryan) kept her head in front to beat Splash Of Pink (Daniel Obrian) in a photo finish in the second filly pace split. She won in 1:57.1 for owner/trainer Paul Ritchie. Handbagofcheezies (Harris) was third.
- Scribblers (Sportswriter, Ryan) got up over Briggs (Harris) in the last eighth of a mile to capture the second pacing colt contest in 1:56.1. Briggs was a half-length adrift in second. Pebble Beach Pro (Lorne House) sprinted home to take show.
The Prospect Series will continue at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday, May 29. The finals, after five legs are completed, will be held on Sep. 27.
The next card at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, May 21 holds the trackās signature event, the $262,000 Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup. First post is set for 6:55 p.m. EDT.
