TORONTO, JUNE 5, 2023 – Ontario Racing’s Standardbred Improvement Program (SIP) Committee is pleased to announce that the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has accepted its proposal to align the qualifying standard for the Prospect Series with the standard for overnight races.
For the 2023 season Prospect Series horses will be considered qualified if they meet the qualifying times listed under rules 12.02.01 and 12.02.02, rather than the standard for added money races under rule 11.02.01.
“We are thankful to the AGCO for accepting our proposal,” said Standardbred Improvement Program Committee Member and Ontario Racing Board Member Ian Fleming. “The Prospect Series provides valuable racing opportunities to Ontario Sired horses and this change will increase participation in these events.”
At the conclusion of the racing season the AGCO will consider a permanent revision to the Rules of Standardbred Racing with the benefit of feedback from the 2023 season.
