Gimme A Corona (Control The Moment) came from Ontario and started by putting up her first harness racing win in Manitoba as she took home the second division of the Lady Crocus for trainer Richard Rey on Saturday (Aug. 19) at The Loop.
It was her fourth win in 2023 for the three-year-old, and two of her previous wins came in the Prospect Series. Gimme A Coronaās lifetime-best is 1:55, which she accomplished at Georgian Downs for her first win of the season. She paced a steady 2:01.3-mile time in the Lady Crocus, the fastest time on the card. Now she is in the care of trainer Richard Rey and will likely be one of the dominant three-year-olds in Manitoba.
Maching Millions (Andreoli Hanover) won the first division of the Lady Crocus in 2:04.0. The fourth win of the year for the Trevor Williams-trained filly. Before this start, Matching Millions was racing in Alberta and entered in a couple of top-end three-year-old stakes. Blake Piwniuk was on the bike and got his first five wins on the day.
Not only was their exciting stake action, but there was also a first-time winner circle visit for Paula Mason. Mason got the first driving win of her career as she steered Rockin The Irons (In The Irons) to 2:09 time and the victory. However, Mason has 14 career wins as a trainer, so she is no stranger to the winnerās circle.
Racing will return to the Loop on Saturday, Aug. 25. Post time is set for 2:00 p.m.
