Top Of Her Trade (Bolt The Deur) proved Truro Raceway’s speediest mare on Friday (Jul. 12) as she won the quarter-mile showdown on the track’s Distance Day harness racing card.
She had rail advantage with Todd Trites in the bike and led by a half-length over The Yingyang (Keith Legge) on the turn with Oh Artleigh (Darren Crowe) with them three-wide. Top Of Her Trade had increased her advantage to a length by the top of the lane, and the mare had no trouble closing out from there. She crossed the line a length-and-a-quarter ahead of The Yingyang in :26.1. Im A Miracle (Greg Munro) was third.
TOP OF HER TRADE REPLAY
The win was Top Of Her Trade’s first of the season after six losses at the one-mile distance. George Rennison trains the mare for Andrea Rennison and Corey Pickrem. It was also Top Of Her Trade’s first lifetime start at a distance other than a mile. She is 23-for-127 lifetime with $61,586.
Fifth Estate’s (Country Estate) victory in the second three-quarter-mile event was a new Canadian record. The gelding, driven by Ernie Laffin, came out of the pocket on the last turn and out-finished Well Lets See (Langille) for the three-quarter-length victory in 1:24.4 at 33-1. The performance dethroned last year’s Distance Day winner Rising Horizon by a two-fifths of a second.
FIFTH ESTATE REPLAY
Distance Day held six total alternate distance races. The winners at a mile-and-a-quarter were Er Quinn (Total Truth, Legge, 2:30.4), Lady N Paradise (Western Paradise, Munro, 2:29.1), and Dustylanesebastian (Steelhead Hanover, Ernest Laffin, 2:30). The other three-quarter-mile winner was Camco Willow (Westwardho Hanover, Paul Langille, 1:28.2).
Racing will resume at Truro Raceway on Sunday, Jul. 21.
