Last year’s Quebec-bred champion filly trotter, Sensi Amnesia (Muscle Mass), started off the 2024 stakes season at the Hippodrome 3R (H3R) in Trois-Rivieres in fine fashion, winning in a romp in the opening round of the Breeders Trophy Series Friday (July 12).
There were three divisions of the series for three-year-old Quebec-Bred colt and filly trotters.
The lone division for fillies was the 5th race with a purse of $10,000. And pretty much from the start, the race belonged to Sensi Amnesia and trainer-driver Marie-Claude Auger.
Last year’s champion, winning the $55,000 final at H3R, Sensi Amnesia was sent out after the lead from post five for Auger and they took it away from All She Wrote (Jocelyn Gendron) by the opening quarter mile in :29.4.
Sensi Amnesia held the field at bay, cruising by the half mile in :59.2 up seven lengths and the three-quarters in 1:29.1, up by nine lengths. She never slowed down and ended up crushing the field by seven open lengths in 1:59.3. MVPS Daughter (Jerome Lombart) was second with HP Agathe (Pascal Berube).
SENSI AMNESIA REPLAY
It was a lifetime mark for Sensi Amnesia and her second win this season. She was bred by Auger, who co-owns the filly with Catheline Pelletier, and paid just $2.10 to win.
In the $7,500 4th race first division of the Breeders Trophy Series, driver Marie-Claude Auger pulled off a classic move in the backstretch with race favorite Captain PV (Wheeling N Dealin) and then tore away from the field for an easy victory.
The race began with Last Try and owner, breeder, trainer and driver Jerome Lombart going right to the early lead and forcing Captain PV to take a tuck into the two-hole as they sped to the opening quarter in :29.3. Meanwhile, Wild Dream Men (Guy Gagnon), who broke before the start and was last, had regrouped and came first-over. They caught the field as Last Try led to the half mile in 1:01.1.
Once they straightened out in the backstretch, Wild Dream Men was gaining on the outside when Auger backed out of the two-hole with Captain PV and swung three-wide and went right by Wild Dream Men and Just Try by the three-quarters in 1:31.3.
Then it was Captain PV and Auger pulling away from the field and winning in a romp by seven and three-quarter lengths in 2:00.3. Wild Dream Men was second with Spin For Life (Robert Shepherd) third.
It was the third straight win for Captain PV, who is trained and co-owned by Serge Nadeau with the stable of Y Corriveau, Inc. He paid $2.90 to win.
CAPTAIN PV REPLAY
In the 7th race second division for the colts, Bandura (Marie-Claude Auger) shot to the early lead and was up by six lengths at the opening quarter in :29.3.
Already on the move first-over from the start, Paradise Moni (International Moni) and driver Pascal Berube started marching up to tangle with Bandura to the half mile in 1:02.2 and to the three-quarters in 1:32 with neither horse backing off.
Taking the lead on the final turn, Paradise Moni then had to dig in and hold off the late charge of Drinklikehenry (William Roy) to win by one length in 2:02. Hercules (Stephane Brosseau) was third.
It was the third win of the season for Paradise Moni, who is trained by Marie Grimard for the Maguire Inc. stable and paid $5.60 to win.
PARADISE MONI REPLAY
In the 6th race $6,500 Preferred-Handicap Trot, Rose Run Why Not (Uncle Peter) and driver William Roy at odds of 10-1, swept three-wide from second-over and shot past the field to draw off and win by four and one-half lengths in 1:58.4. It was the six-year-old mares sixth win this year for trainer Carl Duguay, who co-owns Rose Run Why Not with Investissement K F B.
Track Notes: Both Marie-Claude Auger and Pascal Berube each scored a driving triple and William Roy had a driving double. Marc-Andre Simoneau had a training double. Live racing resumes at H3R on Sunday (July 14) with a ten-race program starting at 12:00 noon featuring the opening round of the Breeders Trophy Series for three-year-old colt and filly pacers.
