Gray Zee unleashed an explosive harness racing performance at Marquis Downs on Saturday as he sliced two fifths of a second off the track record for aged pacing geldings.
The nine-year-old son of I Zee was a convincing winner on his seasonal debut at the Saskatchewan oval for new trainer Gilles Bouvier on May 14.
In his May 21 victory, Gray Zee went more than six seconds faster and won by 11 lengths. Bouvier piloted the gelding to :28.3, :58.1, and 1:28.4 splits on the engine, and they lit the teletimer with a clocking of 1:55.4.
Shadow Promises, Diggin A Trench, and Dragon Time all laid claim to the prior record of 1:56.1.
Annabelle Price of Strathclair and Aurel Vodon of Virden aquired the gelding just before his 2022 debut. He has won 37 of his 180 career starts and has earned $189,545.
Marquis Downs is open for racing again on May 22, 2022. First post will be 1:00 p.m. CST.
