Therealprincess’s (Source Of Pride) performance was the highlight of the Donnie and George Turner Memorial on Friday (Jun. 10) at Truro Raceway as the filly cruised to an open-length win in track record-equaling time.
She was never headed in the first filly division and jogged to a three-and-a-half-length victory for driver Corey MacPherson in 1:54.3. Kcs Starlite (Todd Trites) finished second and was well clear of Malice Intent (Darrin Crowe), who was third.
THEREALPRINCESS REPLAY
Eddy Doucette trains the winner and co-owns her with breeder Blaine Thibeau, Gordon Macleod, and Grant Mann. The filly is now perfect through two this year and is seven-for-14 overall with $44,678 earned for the Kensington-based connections.
The 1:54.3 time repeated the record set for three-year-old filly pacers by Woodmere Skyroller in November 2020.
In the other split for fillies, Woodmere Jazz (Rollwithitharry) vaulted past Jj Scarlett (Redmond Doucet) after a pocket trip to score by a length in a lifetime-best 1:56.2 with Marc Campbell aboard. Jj Scarlett held place over Orrsterror (Gilles Barrieau).
WOODMERE JAZZ REPLAY
Woodmere Jazz has won six of her 16 lifetime tries and has earned $48,121. Kevin Maclean has trained the filly to two victories in three this year, including a P.E.I. Colt Stakes division, for Reginald MacPherson of Stratford.
Fern Hill General (Malicious) recorded his first win of the year in the first division for colts and geldings. He pulled himself to the lead for Brodie MacPhee in a parked-out first panel and defended the position to the finish for a 1:56.1 victory. Zendayacougarbeach (Campbell) was three-quarters of a length behind. Brumby (Adam Merner) finished third.
FERN HILL GENERAL REPLAY
It was the winner’s seventh career tally in 16 outings. The gelding has made $46,616 for owners Peter Smith of Stratford and Gerald Morrissey of Charlottetown. Earl Smith is his trainer.
In the second division for colts and geldings, Stash It Away (Pang Shui) enjoyed an entire mile at the pylons and flew up the inside to nip Rollwithhottytoddy (Barrieau) on the line to win in 1:55.1. The latter was beaten by a nose. Fern Hill Gusto (Campbell) took the show spot.
STASH IT AWAY REPLAY
Stash It Away’s career record is now 10-for-15, and the Kevin Maclean-trained gelding has raked in $72,174. He won the Atlantic Sires Stakes Breeders Crown Final at two along with the Maritime Breeders Stakes, the Milton Downey Memorial, and several other stakes events for owner Reginald MacPherson.
Alldawaytocardigan (Tobago Cays) closed out the stake with a strong front-end victory in 1:56.2 with Myles Heffernan at the lines. Southside Eddy (Crowe) was second over Elm Grove Quail (Paul Langille).
Heffernan has trained the gelding to three wins in three starts this season after a one-for-13 rookie year. The horse, owned by Jackie Heffernan of Glace Bay, has earned $24,157.
